Students at Penn State Altoona are Friends For Life!
Many of the people you meet while you attend Penn State Altoona will become your lifelong friends. You will stay in touch long after you graduate and share many milestones of your lives: new careers, relationships, marriages, children, travel, etc. You and your friends will probably get together on a yearly basis for Penn State football games, THON, the Arts Festival, or other Penn State occasions. You’ll reminisce about the great times you had here at college.
Students at Penn State Altoona look out for each other. That’s one of the best things about this campus. Friends don’t allow their friends to drive if they have been drinking or get into a car with a driver who has been drinking. Friends don’t encourage their friends to drink to the point of putting themselves in danger by vomiting, falling down, or passing out. Friends call for help if someone has passed out (unresponsive, can’t be woken up, having problems breathing, vomiting while passed out).
Friends Don't Let Friends Die Drunk
Good friends don’t get so drunk they need a babysitter. Everyone knows it can be very annoying taking care of someone who is so drunk--it’s no fun watching a friend vomit. It’s unfair to your friends if you are so out of control that they must ensure you don’t get hurt or die. That’s not what having a good time is all about.
Penn State Altoona students take personal responsibility and social responsibility if they choose to drink.
Are YOU a Friend For Life?
Friends For Life:
- Don’t encourage friends to get “wasted.”
- Call 911 if a friend is passed out, unresponsive, unconscious, vomiting, or exhibiting other signs of alcohol poisoning.
- Prevent a friend from driving after drinking.
- Prevent a friend from getting into a car with a driver who has been drinking.
- Prevent a friend from going home with someone when they believe their friend might regret it the next day.
- Stop a drunk friend to prevent physical injury to them or another person.
- Always plan ahead and use a designated driver.
- Stick with the same group of friends the entire time drinking.
- Know the alcohol content of what they are drinking.
- Space their drinks.
- Alternate with non-alcoholic drinks.
- Set their drinking limit before they start drinking.
- Keep track of how much they are drinking.
- Eat before and while they are drinking.
- Stick with only one kind of alcohol.
- Don’t mix alcohol with medications, drugs, or energy drinks
- Don’t leave their drinks unattended
- Don’t drink so much they need someone to “babysit” them
