- Obtain a copy of the syllabus
Contact the institution where the course was completed to obtain a course syllabus. If you don’t have a copy of your own, try reaching out to the Registrar’s or Academic Affairs office at your previous institution.
- Send the syllabus to Penn State for a more thorough review
- Email an Adobe PDF copy of the syllabus to [email protected] If the syllabus is not available electronically, please mail the syllabus to Undergraduate Admissions, The Pennsylvania State University, 201 Shields Building, University Park, PA 16802-1294. You may also fax the syllabus to 814-863-7590.
- Include your name and Penn State ID number in the subject line of the email. Indicate the institution and state where course work was taken. Attach each syllabus as a separate .pdf or Microsoft Word file. Please do not send syllabi for multiple institutions in the same email.
- Receive a new transfer course evaluation
- Keep in mind that the syllabus review process can take up to six weeks.
- Check the Transfer Credit Tool or updates on each course you submitted syllabi for. The new evaluation will be added to our database once the process is complete.
- Discuss updates with an academic adviser
- Students who are admitted to Penn State will need to discuss any transfer course updates with their academic adviser so they can utilize the newly evaluated course appropriately. This can be done at orientation or by scheduling a meeting with their assigned academic adviser.
- Pending transfer courses (XFRPEN) will automatically turn to general credit (XFRGEN) if a syllabus is not received within the student’s first semester.
- Please be advised that a student’s tuition will increase when the Penn State transcript reflects 59.1 cumulative credits. Credits earned from tests, like AP or IB exams, are considered transfer credits and are included in the cumulative credit total. If the credits you are transferring or have transferred to Penn State place you above 59.1 cumulative credits after the start of the semester, your tuition will increase immediately. You will receive a bill for the additional tuition on the first day of the following month.
