Bob Trumpbour and Kenneth Womack’s book, The Eighth Wonder of the World: The Life of Houston’s Iconic Astrodome, was recently released in paperback by the University of Nebraska Press. The book explores the history of the nation’s first large-scale indoor sports facility from its initial construction to recent attempts to ensure its historic preservation. The new release includes an additional chapter on current efforts to repurpose the Astrodome.
The book's initial release received positive recognition in a variety of venues, earning the Society of American Baseball Research’s prestigious Seymour Medal, the Pete Delohery Award for Best Sports Book from Shelf Unbound, and several regional awards.
Trumpbour is an associate professor of communications at Penn State Altoona, and Womack is dean of the Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Monmouth University.
