Michael Lowery, chief of police and safety at Penn State Altoona, has been named the interim director and chief of University Police and Public Safety at University Park, effective Jan. 7, according to David Gray, senior vice president for Finance and Business.

More than 350 buildings on campus are connected to and controlled by a building automation system, which uses a secure computer network to centralize the remote monitoring and control of electricity, lighting, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning and other environmental systems. Kenneth Womack has earned first place honors in the contemporary fiction category from the Texas Association of Authors for his novel "Playing the Angel," which was published by Stephen F. Austin State University Press in August. Womack will receive the award in October during the Texas Book Festival.
