Altoona's Jack McKenna, Adam Chan sweep AMCC weekly volleyball awards

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — A pair of Penn State Altoona student-athletes swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s weekly men’s volleyball awards on Feb. 3 as outside hitter Jack McKenna, of Manahawkin, New Jersey, was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week and libero Adam Chan, of Framingham, Massachusetts, was chosen as its Defensive Player of the Week.

Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball hosted a trio of non-conference matches last week, taking on Wilson College on Jan. 28 before hosting Wilkes University and Saint Vincent College for a tri-match on Feb. 1. McKenna and Chan both had strong performances for the Lions.

On Tuesday night versus Wilson, McKenna had 12 points on eight kills, three service aces, and one solo block. He followed that up with 11 points on 11 kills against Wilkes to open Saturday’s tri-match, then totaled 11.5 points on 10 kills, one solo block, and one block assist against St. Vincent later that day.

On the week, McKenna recorded 34.5 points (2.7 points per set), 29 kills (2.23 kills per set), three aces (0.23 aces per set), and three total blocks (0.23 blocks per set). He also compiled a solid .264 attack percentage.

Chan had a steady week at libero for the Lions, finishing with six digs against Wilson, nine digs against Wilkes, and a team-high 12 against St. Vincent. He totaled 27 digs on the week and averaged 2.08 digs per set.

Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball is 3-4 overall this season. The Lions have another home match on Feb. 4, taking on non-conference foe Chatham University at 7 p.m.
