Five Altoona tennis student-athletes named to CSC Academic All-District teams

Penn State Altoona Athletics announced on Wednesday, July 12, the addition of men’s and women’s wrestling to its NCAA Division III varsity sport offerings. The two teams will begin intercollegiate competition in 2024-25, and a head coaching position will be filled by the start of 2024. Penn State Altoona’s total of NCAA Division III teams will rise to 16 after the additions.

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Five Penn State Altoona student-athletes from the women’s and men’s tennis teams were named to the College Sports Communicators’ NCAA Division III Academic All-District teams on Tuesday, May 13, when the organization announced the list.

To be eligible for a spot on an Academic All-District team for tennis, student-athletes must meet certain academic and athletic requirements. Academically, student-athletes must be at least sophomores while holding cumulative grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher. Athletically, a player must have been in the lineup for at least 70% of their team’s matches during the 2024-25 season. Nominators could submit up to four qualified student-athletes per team.

Three members of the Penn State Altoona women’s tennis team and two members of the men’s tennis team were named to the CSC's NCAA Division III Academic All-District teams.

Women’s tennis:

  • Caitlin Blessel, of Saint Marys, majoring in biology
  • Lexi Colaianni, of Pittsburgh, majoring in business management and marketing
  • Rachel Stricek, of Tyrone, majoring in early childhood education

Men’s tennis:

  • Kadyn Carey, of Altoona, majoring in business
  • Casey Hess, of Annville, majored in electro-mechanical engineering technology
