Altoona to host Q&A session with 'Love and Whiskey' playwright

ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona will host playwright Allyson Currin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, in the Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Following a performance of her play "Love and Whiskey," Currin will offer a question and answer session about her play. 

Currin is an award-winning playwright, actress and teacher. She is the author of more than 20 plays, many of which have been honored by the Helen Hayes Awards, DC Theatre Scene, and the Mary Goldwater Awards from Theatre Lobby in Washington, D.C.

"Love and Whiskey" is set during the Great Depression in North Carolina. The story revolves around Lucy Mae, a woman caught between her family obligations and her own dreams and desires. This bittersweet drama was written by Currin and developed through Charter Theatre Company and Shenandoah International Playwright Retreat.

The post-show event is free. Tickets for "Love and Whiskey" are $5 for Penn State Altoona students and $7 general admission. Children under age 12 are free and should be accompanied by an adult. Tickets may be purchased at the box office, open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and before and during all performances.
