ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona freshman Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Player of the Week for women’s tennis on Monday afternoon.

Stevens had a record-setting week for the Penn State Altoona women’s tennis team, while helping the Lady Lions finish their regular season schedule with three wins.

With three victories in No. 1 singles last week, Stevens set a new Penn State Altoona women’s tennis program record for the most singles wins in a year with 12. She surpassed the previous record of 11, held by former Lady Lions Regina Sanchez (2014 and 2015) and Madison Caplan (2014).

Stevens went 3-0 in both singles and doubles matches last week. In Monday’s victory over non-conference opponent Juniata College, she posted a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles and an 8-2 win in No. 1 doubles. Stevens followed that up with another 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles and an 8-1 triumph in No. 1 doubles during Saturday’s 5-1 win over AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford. In Sunday’s 7-2 victory against AMCC foe La Roche College, Stevens posted another 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles, as well as an 8-1 win in No. 1 doubles.

Stevens holds a perfect 12-0 record this season in No. 1 singles matches, currently ranking first in the AMCC in overall singles wins (12), AMCC singles wins (8), and singles win percentage (1.000). She also holds an 8-4 overall record in No. 1 doubles matches, including a 6-2 mark against AMCC competition.

This is Stevens’ first AMCC Player of the Week award in her collegiate career.

Penn State Altoona women’s tennis is 8-4 overall and 7-1 in the AMCC. The Lady Lions clinched the number two seed in the upcoming AMCC Tournament, earning a first round bye. Penn State Altoona will play a semifinal round AMCC Tournament match on Saturday, October 27 against the winner of a first round match between La Roche and Mount Aloysius College.
