Career Services provides programs, services, and information designed to help students make informed career decisions, develop skills, and learn more about the ongoing journey of career development. We are eager to collaborate with faculty to support Penn State Altoona students. We offer various presentations and resources that can be integrated into the curriculum. Please explore the following information and keep us in mind as you plan your courses.
Career Presentations and Workshops
Career Services staff members are available as guest speakers in your class and can offer instruction on topics such as career planning, job and internship search, resume writing, networking, and much more. We are also happy to collaborate on developing a specialized topic that best meets your course and students’ needs. Email Sarah Kordish, Career Counselor, at [email protected] to schedule.
In addition, we're available to stand in for you in class if you're unable to make it due to illness, a planned vacation, or any other personal matter. Complete the Don’t Cancel That Class form to request a pre-built workshop.
Class Assignments
Career Services can help your students develop skills by incorporating class assignments into the curriculum. Previous class assignments have included visits to the Career Center, resume appointments, mock interviews with Career Services staff and/or employers, and attending events such as a career fair or employer panel. We would love to help you design an assignment to familiarize your students with our services, develop a specific skill, reflect on their in-class experiences, and more.
Programs and Events
We’re always looking for on-campus partners! If you have an idea for a new program or if you’re planning to send your students to one of our events, please let us know. We’d be happy to help you coordinate career-related events, such as alumni panels, employer guest speakers, mock interviewing events, and more.
Career Development Materials
Career Services also has online materials that can be utilized by faculty in class. Please check out University Park’s resources on the following topics: Resumes, Cover letters, Correspondence, References, Interview skills, Internship and job search.
We also recommend the digital Career Guide as a starting point for students. It’s full of detailed examples and useful career advice.
Nittany Lion Careers
Nittany Lion Careers (NLC) is Penn State’s single-system recruiting platform for all students, alumni, and employers. This site allows students and alumni to upload resumes and search for a variety of jobs and internships posted by employers targeting Penn State students. More than 11,000 registered employers use this site.
Students can activate their account by visiting Nittany Lion Careers, and following the prompts for student log in.
