Conducting a successful internship or job search takes more than searching the web for roles in your field of interest. A quality job search can also involve networking with companies, utilizing a variety of job search strategies, and multiple job search tools. Meet with Career Services to develop your job or internship search plan.
Suggestions for a Successful Internship or Job Search
- Identify your career interests and goals + explore related job titles
- Attend career fairs and other networking events to meet employers
- Create and/or update your LinkedIn – this is a great place to connect with employers and recruiters will check out your profile!
- Identify a list of 5-10 top companies that you’re interested in
- Request informational interviews with people who work at those companies and/or connect with recruiters at those companies
- Identify open positions posted directly on company websites (search for the “careers” or “jobs” page), Nittany Lion Careers, and other websites
- Update your resume, tailoring it to each position you want to apply for
- Apply promptly to open roles!
- Track applications and responses in a spreadsheet or notebook
