2013 Winter Plunge

A water temperature of 33.5 degrees could not deter approximately eight-five Penn State Altoona students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends from taking a Winter Plunge into the waters of Canoe Creek State Park on January 27, 2013. Organized by the college's Alumni Society, the inaugural frosty fundraiser was all in good fun, with net proceeds benefitting the Society's scholarship program and Penn State Altoona Benefitting THON. Sheetz, Inc. was the title sponsor of the event. C.

It was a busy day full of excitement and energy as nearly 550 first year students moved onto the Penn State Altoona campus for the fall 2012 semester. Live entertainment, Creamery ice cream, and family activities took place while volunteers from the college helped move students in to their residence hall rooms. Following move-in, Penn State Altoona welcomed the class of 2016 with a weekend full of orientation events and activities from convocation to community service, tie-dying, and dancing.

Penn State Altoona held its spring commencement ceremony Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona. Mike Reid, Penn State graduate, former Cincinnati Bengal football player, and singer/songwriter gave the commencement address and also played the piano and sang "This Road," which he re-wrote for this specific occasion.

2012 THON raises $10.6M

2012 THON raises $10.6M

It was another record-breaking year for Penn State students as they raised a whopping $10,686,924.83 for THON! Penn State Altoona was responsible for nearly $83,000 of that, taking second place out of all the commonwealth campuses. Six Penn State Altoona students were chosen as dancers for the 46-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping marathon, a role they say is a true honor. THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world donating all proceeds to The Four Diamonds Fund, which in turn benefits the Hershey Medical Center and its young patients battling pediatric cancer.
