
Caleb Fries, Penn State Altoona student-athlete in men's volleyball
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Penn State Altoona opposite hitter Caleb Fries, of Altoona, picked up his third Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week award on April 7 when the league office announced its weekly men’s volleyball awards.
Fries powered the Lions to home wins over AMCC opponents Mount Aloysius College and Houghton University last week, as the Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball team closed out its regular season schedule.
In the Lions’ 3-2 win over Mount Aloysius last Tuesday, April 1, Fries totaled 28 points on 22 kills, eight block assists, one solo block, and one service ace. He followed that up with 15 points on 12 kills, two aces, and a solo block in on Friday, April 4, in a 3-0 victory over Houghton.
On the week, Fries totaled 43 points (5.4 points per set), 34 kills (4.25 kills per set), 10 total blocks (1.25 blocks per set), and three aces (0.38 aces per set) while swinging at a .294 attack percentage. Through 26 matches this season, he leads the AMCC in kills (316), points (398), and points per set (4.2).
Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball is 14-12 overall and finished 4-2 in the AMCC this season. The Lions clinched the number two seed in the upcoming AMCC Tournament and will face third seed Penn State Behrend on April 11 at 7 p.m. in the semifinal round in Buffalo.
