WICHITA, Kan. — The Penn State Altoona women’s bowling program was recognized for its strong work in the classroom earlier this week when the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) announced its All-Academic Scholar awards.

As a team, Penn State Altoona was one of 61 NCAA women’s bowling programs to earn All-Academic Scholar Team status from the NTCA. Individually, six different Lion student-athletes were recognized as All-Academic Scholar-Athletes by the NTCA.

The Penn State Altoona women’s bowling team finished the 2023-24 academic year with a 3.529 cumulative grade-point average, the 22nd highest among all NCAA women’s bowling programs and the best of any Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference team. To achieve NTCA All-Academic Scholar Team status, NCAA women’s bowling teams must have maintained cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher during 2023-24 while remaining active members of the NTCA organization.

Additionally, six of Penn State Altoona’s women’s bowling student-athletes were tabbed as All-Academic Scholar-Athletes by the NTCA:

  • Isabelle Forcey, of Clearfield, an elementary and early childhood education major
  • Kennedie Lauver, of New Berlin, a business major
  • Janine Maxwell, of North Chicago, Illinois, a psychology major
  • Kaitlyn Search, of Allentown, New Jersey, a kinesiology major
  • Maddy Sosko, of Latrobe, an environmental studies major
  • Breanna Yarnall, of Bedford, a nursing major

To be eligible for the NTCA’s All-Academic Scholar-Athlete honor, student-athletes must have maintained cumulative GPAs of 3.4 or higher throughout 2023-24. Penn State Altoona’s total of six All-Academic Scholar-Athletes is tied for the most of any AMCC team this year.
