Penn State Altoona men’s basketball forward Dwayne Jones, of Philadelphia, and guard Kal-El Gentles, of Austin, TX, each received a pair of postseason awards from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, as the league office released its All-Conference team on Tuesday, March 4.
Jones was voted the AMCC’s Defensive Player of the Year for the third season in a row while also being selected to the first team of the All-Conference squad. Gentles earned AMCC Newcomer of the Year status and was also a third-team All-Conference pick.
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released its 2024-25 Academic All-Conference team on April 10, including 120 Penn State Altoona student-athletes.
The AMCC's yearly Academic All-Conference team recognizes student-athletes from institutions across the league for achieving cumulative grade-point averages of 3.2 or higher, through the fall 2024 semester. Individuals on the list who compiled GPAs of 3.5 or higher earned a greater status of recognition, being tabbed as Peak Performers. The 2024-25 AMCC Academic All-Conference team is comprised of 1,123 student-athletes from the conference's member schools, including both full and affiliate members.
This year, a total of 120 Penn State Altoona student-athletes earned spots on the AMCC Academic All-Conference team. Out of that group, 80 student-athletes were recognized as Peak Performers. Additionally, 11 Penn State Altoona student-athletes were marked for induction into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college student-athlete honor society.
