Due to the emphasis on undergraduate education at Penn State Altoona, students in Rail Transportation Engineering (RTE) are afforded unique opportunities to participate in graduate level research. Students are encouraged to work with RTE faculty and are mentored in conducting research and writing technical papers. Several students have presented at national conferences and published papers in railroad engineering conference proceedings. Research areas include both civil infrastructure and railroad mechanical operations.
