Hoppel had a great showing at the plate to help the Penn State Altoona softball team to a 3-1 record last week, as the Lions took on nonconference opponents Juniata College and Elizabethtown College in doubleheaders.
In the Lions’ doubleheader sweep of Juniata at home last on March 25, Hoppel combined to go 5-for-7 with two doubles, two runs scored, and one RBI. On March 30, in a road split at Elizabethtown, she hit a combined 4-for-6 with two home runs, five RBIs, three runs scored, and a double.
On the week, Hoppel was 9-for-13 (.692) at the plate with six RBIs, five runs scored, three doubles, and two home runs, while recording multiple hits in all four games and having her first collegiate two-homer game against Elizabethtown. Her on-base percentage was .714, she slugged 1.385, and she was perfect in the field after recording 27 putouts on 27 chances.
This is Hoppel’s first career AMCC Player of the Week award. She currently leads the conference in RBI (16) while ranking second in doubles (7), third in home runs (2) and total bases (33), fourth in slugging percentage (.673), and fifth in batting average (.408).
