
The Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball team picked up its fourth weekly award of the season from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference on Monday, Feb. 24, when the league office announced that opposite hitter Caleb Fries, of Altoona, was its Offensive Player of the Week.
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y.— The Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball team picked up its fourth weekly award of the season from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference on Monday, Feb. 24, when the league office announced that opposite hitter Caleb Fries, of Altoona, was its Offensive Player of the Week.
Fries powered the Lions’ offense in a 2-1 week of nonconference play, during which his team faced Hood College, Nichols College and Wittenberg University.
In Wednesday night’s 3-0 sweep of Hood on the road, Fries totaled a match-high 15 points on 12 kills, two service aces and two block assists. He followed that up with a team-best 11 points on 10 kills and a solo block in Saturday morning’s 3-0 loss to Hood in the Juniata College Eagles Invite, in which Fries was named to the event’s All-Tournament team. Penn State Altoona returned home later that evening to defeat Wittenberg 3-0, with the Lions getting a match-high 16 points from Fries on 15 kills and an ace.
On the week, Fries totaled 42 points (4.7 points per set), 37 kills (4.11 kills per set), three service aces (0.33 aces per set) and three total blocks (0.33 blocks per set), while compiling an attack percentage of .267.
Through 15 matches this season, Fries currently leads the AMCC in points (230.5), points per set (4.2), kills per set (3.36), service aces (26) and aces per set (0.47).
Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball is 8-7 overall this season and will travel to face nonconference opponent Wilson College at 7 p.m. on Feb. 26 for its next match.
