NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Penn State Altoona setter Mason Grover, of Penfield, New York, was announced as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week in men’s volleyball on Monday, Feb. 10.
Grover helped power the Lions’ offense through a 3-1 week of non-conference play at home.
In Tuesday night’s 3-2 victory over Chatham University, Grover put up 51 assists — the sixth-most in a match in Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball history — while chipping in three service aces and a pair of kills. On Friday evening, in a 3-1 loss to Randolph College, he finished with 34 assists and an ace.
The Lions recorded 3-0 wins over Randolph and Gallaudet University in a tri-match on Saturday, with Grover tallying 38 assists, one ace, and one kill against the WildCats and having 20 assists versus the Bison.
On the week, Grover totaled 143 assists for an average of 10.21 assists per set. He also contributed 11.5 points on six total blocks, five service aces, and three kills. Through 11 matches this season, Grover leads the AMCC in both total assists (372) and assists per set (8.86).
This is Grover’s first career AMCC Player of the Week award.
Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball is 6-5 overall this season. The Lions wrap up their eight-match homestand on Feb. 13, taking on non-conference foe Messiah University at 7 p.m. in the Arena of the Adler Athletic Complex.
