Hammond is an actor, stand-up comedian, and impressionist. He was a regular member of Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2009, the longest tenure of any cast member in the show's history.

In addition to his SNL appearances, Hammond has been in a number of feature films and television shows including Law and Order: SVU, Damages, and The Devil and Daniel Webster. He is frequently featured on Funny or Die and actively appears as a stand-up comedian and speaker.

In 2011, Hammond's best-selling both dark and comic memoir, God, If You're Not Up There, I'm F***ed, was published. The book details his difficult childhood and the intersection of success and struggle behind the scenes of SNL and his life.

Hammond continually looks for new challenging roles to expand his talents in film and television.
