CRESSON, Pa. — Tim Dolney, associate professor of geography and geographic information science at Penn State Altoona, was the keynote speaker at the Mount Aloysius Conference on College Teaching held on Friday, Oct. 25.

The conference brings high school and higher education faculty together to foster discourse on student learning, pedagogical approaches, and academic, athletic and social engagement.

Dolney’s address focused on his pedagogical use of incorporating excerpted portions of disaster films into his earth science and geoscience courses. This approach emanates from his research on 20 natural disaster films to determine the presence of various themes or clichés.
