
Penn State Altoona faculty members Brian Onishi, associate professor of philosophy, and Jeff Stoyanoff, assistant professor of English and women's, gender, and sexuality studies, released a new episode of their podcast, "Horror Joy," titled "Nosferatu and 'First Word on Horror' with Philip Gelatt."
ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona faculty members Brian Onishi, associate professor of philosophy, and Jeff Stoyanoff, assistant professor of English and of women's, gender and sexuality studies, released a new episode of their podcast, "Horror Joy."
In the episode titled “Final Destination 1, 2, 3,” Onishi and Stoyanoff turn back time to discuss the first three films of the “Final Destination” franchise, exploring the ways the films engage with the horrors of the new millennium, its politics and its technologies.
In the episode, the hosts discuss the following:
- How the films reflect the anxieties of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, including Y2K and 9/11.
- How the themes of technology, societal change and existential dread show up differently in each film.
