NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Penn State Altoona freshman Wilhelm Grot, of Tyrone, was selected as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Player of the Week in men’s tennis on Monday, April 1.

Grot helped Penn State Altoona to dominant wins over Mount Aloysius College and Penn College last week, going 2-0 in doubles matches and 1-0 in singles matches to achieve his first collegiate singles win.

In last Tuesday afternoon’s 9-0 road win over nearby AMCC rival Mount Aloysius, Grot and teammate Emmett Hibbs, of Richfield, posted an 8-0 victory over their opponents in the No. 3 doubles match.

The duo of Grot and Hibbs followed that up with another lopsided win in Thursday’s 8-1 home victory over non-conference opponent Penn College, prevailing 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles match. Grot also got the nod in the No. 6 singles spot, where he played to a 6-2, 6-3 decision over his opponent to notch his first career singles win with the Lions.

Grot is 3-3 overall in doubles matches this season, as well as 1-0 in singles matches.

Penn State Altoona men’s tennis holds a 3-3 overall record as a team, including a 2-0 mark in the AMCC. The Lions’ next match is Tuesday, April 2, when the team will host non-conference foe Westminster College at The Summit Tennis and Athletic Club starting at 3:30 p.m.
