Penn State Altoona professor emeritus contributes to new documentary

Penn State Altoona Professor Emeritus Jerry Zolten contributed to and appears in the new PBS documentary “Gospel” by Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

WPSU will sponsor a sneak-peek on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at its Innovation Park studio in State College. Zolten will talk about his role in the film and take part in a pre-screening performance by gospel singer Terri Parker.

ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona Professor Emeritus Jerry Zolten contributed to and appears in the new PBS documentary “Gospel” by Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

WPSU will sponsor a sneak-peek on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at its Innovation Park studio in State College. Zolten will talk about his role in the film and take part in a pre-screening performance by gospel singer Terri Parker.

“Gospel” digs deep into the origin story of Black gospel music, coming out of slavery, blending with the blues tradition, and soaring to new heights during the Great Migration.

The event is free but requires registration. “Gospel” will premier nationwide Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 12 and 13.
