NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — A member of the Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball team earned another Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference weekly award on Monday, Oct. 9, when Lions’ outside hitter Lacee Barnhart, of Bellefonte, was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week.
Barnhart led the Lions in digs last week in 3-0 wins over AMCC opponents Pitt-Greensburg and Hilbert College.
In Tuesday night’s home victory over Pitt-Greensburg, Barnhart led all players in the match with 21 digs. She duplicated that total during Saturday afternoon’s road win at Hilbert, producing a match-high 21 digs while chipping in one block assist.
On the week, Barnhart compiled 42 digs and averaged 7.0 digs per set. She currently ranks eighth in the AMCC in total digs (242) and digs per set (4.25).
This is Barnhart’s first AMCC weekly award this season. It also represents the league-high fifth time that a member of the Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball team has won the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball is 7-9 overall, including a 2-0 mark in the AMCC. The Lions’ next match is this upcoming Saturday, Oct. 14, when the team faces conference foe Penn State Behrend.
