NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Penn State Altoona right-handed pitcher Madison Peters, of Bellefonte, was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Pitcher of the Week in softball on Monday, April 24.
Peters went 3-0 in three appearances in the circle last week for the Lions, who posted doubleheader sweeps of AMCC opponents La Roche University and Hilbert College.
In game one at La Roche last Wednesday, Peters pitched a complete game and allowed only three hits and one run while striking out four batters to record the victory. In game two against the Redhawks, she entered in relief and pitched the final two innings, posting a scoreless performance, recording four strikeouts, and picking up another win. In game one versus Hilbert on Friday, Peters pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to notch another win.
On the week, Peters was 3-0 with a 0.50 earned run average. She pitched 14 innings and allowed only four hits and one run while issuing no walks and registering 16 strikeouts.
Peters currently leads the AMCC in wins (10) while ranking second in complete games (12), innings pitched (86 2/3), and strikeouts (69), third in ERA (2.67), fourth in strikeouts per game (5.57), and fifth in opponent batting average (.251).
This is Peters’ third AMCC Pitcher of the Week award this season.
Penn State Altoona softball is 15-9 overall, including 7-1 in the AMCC. The Lions’ next games are at home this Thursday, April 27, when the team will host conference opponent Alfred State College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
