Students from AG 160: Introduction to Ethics and Issues in Agriculture are planning campus events and campaigns related to sustainability throughout the month of April. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are encouraged to participate.

ALTOONA, Pa. — Students from AG 160: Introduction to Ethics and Issues in Agriculture are planning campus events and campaigns related to sustainability throughout the month of April. Penn State Altoona students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to participate.

Projects include the following:

World Hunger Awareness SurveyNoon to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 8, Slep Student Center. AG 160 students will survey their peers and collect opinions and assess how much students know about world hunger.

Food Drive Benefiting Ivyside Eats Food PantryApril 10 through 21. Donation boxes will be available in the Slep Student Center, Edith Davis Eve Chapel, the lobby of the Hawthorn Building, and other campus locations. Preferred items include ramen noodles, cereal, chips, dried fruit, peanut butter, and any easily prepared items.

Grandview Road CleanupNoon to 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, meeting at the Logan Township Fire Station. All materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to wear an old pair of walking shoes or boots. Transportation will be provided from the back of the Hawthorn parking lot starting at 12:30 p.m. and every 30 minutes. Look for the white van.

Seminar Forest Group Lead HikeNoon to 1 p.m., Thursday, April 13, meeting at the campfire pit at the Seminar Forest. Part of the “Leave no Trace” program works to keep the woods as clean and “untouched” as possible. Participants will learn the importance of maintaining the conditions of the forest area. This event is in coordination with the Penn State Altoona Eco-Challenge program.

Clean Up at Nittany PointeNoon to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 16, starting at the Nittany Pointe Clubhouse. All materials (trash bags, gloves) will be provided to participants upon arrival for the event.

Battery Collection EventNoon to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, Outside the Slep Student Center. Bring your used and dead rechargeable batteries, such as lithium, and those for computers and phones for the collection so they can be properly disposed of rather than going into the garbage. No alkaline batteries will be accepted.

Rock Painting at Ag Awareness Day10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, April 20, Outside the Slep Student Center. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to stop by and paint rocks, which will then be collected and relocated to beautify the campus and the local Altoona area.
