‘Adopt Don’t Shop’ awareness week set for April 9–14

Penn State Altoona’s Penn State Altoona for Animal Welfare and Lion Ambassadors student organizations will hold Adopt Don’t Shop Awareness Week April 9-14 on campus. Events include a donation drive, a toy-making session, and a PowerPoint competition.

ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona’s Penn State Altoona for Animal Welfare and Lion Ambassadors student organizations will hold Adopt Don’t Shop Awareness Week, April 9-14, on campus.

A donation drive will take place throughout the week for the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society. Items needed include clumping kitty litter, dog treats, heavy duty trash bags, sponges, Odoban disinfectant, double-handled leashes, and Cheez-Wiz. Students, faculty and staff can drop off supplies in residence halls, Slep Student Center, and Hawthorn Building.

Stop by the Slep Student Center at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, to make animal toys for your own pet, someone else’s or to donate.

A PowerPoint Night will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday, April 14, in the Slep Student Center. Students will create PowerPoint presentations in one of three categories to win prizes such as a Penn State Yeti cooler, a JBL speaker, and a Nintendo Switch. Food will be provided. Dylan Kotrick, manager of the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, will speak about the process of volunteering at the shelter. He also will serve as a judge for the PowerPoint competition.
