NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Penn State Altoona second-year student Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, Pennsylvania/Mount Union) received the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s (AMCC) Golfer of the Week award for his performance on the course last week.
Heffelfinger competed in three events for the Lions last week, producing strong results in each.
In Tuesday’s match play against nonconference opponent Westminster College at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Heffelfinger won his match 5 and 4.
On Friday, day one of the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic at Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona, Heffelfinger shot 73 on the par 72 course to rank third out of 60 individual golfers. His score of 73 tied for the fifth-lowest score in a round in Penn State Altoona men’s golf program history.
In day two of the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic on Saturday, played at Summit Country Club in Cresson, Heffelfinger fired an even-par 72, tying for the fourth-lowest score in a round in Lions history. The sophomore’s two-day score of 145 placed him third out of 60 individuals by the conclusion of the tournament, and he was the top finisher among all AMCC golfers at the event.
Heffelfinger holds a 74.25 average through four rounds this season. This is his first AMCC Golfer of the Week award this season.
Penn State Altoona men’s golf hosts nonconference opponent Juniata College for a dual match at Sinking Valley Country Club at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24.
