ALTOONA, Pa. — The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State is partnering with Penn State Altoona to present two free public programs featuring Wu Han, Philip Setzer and David Finckel on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Artists from the group will participate in a forum held in the Titelman Study of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at 3 p.m. A concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Paul K. and Margery Wolf Kuhn Theatre.

Pianist Wu Han, violinist Philip Setzer, and cellist David Finckel constitute a world-class trio. Han and Finckel, who in 2012 won Musical America’s Musicians of the Year honor, are the artistic directors of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The married couple appears at the most exclusive venues across three continents. Two decades ago they created ArtistLed, classical music’s first musician-directed Internet-based recording company. Setzer, a founding member of Emerson String Quartet, has garnered acclaim in the musical capitals of the world. The trio’s Penn State concert features selected Beethoven works.

Supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the project provides opportunities to engage students, faculty, and the community with classical music artists and programs. Takács Quartet, American Brass Quintet, pianist Christopher O’Riley and cellist Matt Haimovitz, and Brentano String Quartet have all appeared at Penn State Altoona as part of the project, which is supported, in part, by the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, a partnership between the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA), a state agency.
