Penn State Altoona announces 2019 Women's History Months events

Penn State Altoona will hold several events during March in celebration of Women's History Month 2019.

The series of events, "Visionary Women: Champions of Peace and Non-Violence," will kick off with the Women of Color Traveling Black History Museum March 12, from 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. in the Slep Student Center. This event is sponsored by Penn State Altoona's Student Diversity and Inclusion Programming.

A Women's History Month celebration reception will be held March 14, 4:30–6:30 p.m. in the Slep Student Center. Stop by to meet influential women from Penn State Altoona and the Altoona community, add to the Wall of Desire, and see student presentations. This event is sponsored by the Penn State Altoona Women's Studies program.

On March 18, a showing of the film Hidden Figures will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Slep Student Center, followed by a discussion. This event is sponsored by Penn State Altoona's Student Diversity and Inclusion Programming.

"Women Leaders in Criminal Justice: Then and Now" panel and discussion will take place March 19 at 6:30 p.m. in 101–102 Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Panelists include representatives from the Blair County District Attorney's Office, the Blair County Court of Common Pleas, Blair County Family Services Inc., and the Penn State Altoona police department. The event will begin with a brief history of some famous women in criminal justice. Then, each panelist will be introduced and offer advice to students thinking of entering the criminal justice field. There will be time for questions. This event is sponsored by Penn State Altoona's Women's Studies program and the United in Leadership group.

Get into the movement with a performance by Pretty Big Movement, a full-figured dance company specializing in various dance genres such as hip-hop, jazz, African, and modern. Eight dancers from the group will perform and speak about positive body image on Thursday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Auxiliary gym of the Adler Athletic Complex. Free tickets for the event can be picked up at the Bookstore. This event is sponsored by Penn State Altoona's Student Diversity and Inclusion Programming, the Office of Student and Civic Engagement, and the Student Activities Fee.

The student panel "What's at Stake: When Visionary Women Must Act" will take place March 26 from 12:05–1:20 p.m. in Slep Student Center. This event is sponsored by the Penn State Altoona Women's Studies program.

On March 27, there will be a showing of the documentary RBG: Ruth Bader Ginsburg at 6:00 p.m. in Slep Student Center. This event is sponsored by the Penn State Altoona Women's Studies program.

Get your game on with Family Feud - Women's History and Current Issues on April 1 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. in Slep Student Center. This event is sponsored by Penn State Altoona's Student Diversity and Inclusion Programming.
