We are preparing for a meaningful and robust orientation for new Penn State students. Please visit the University's Orientation site for the latest information. Our orientation is divided into two components—a University-wide virtual experience followed by a virtual academic advising appointment—and attending each component is required for students to schedule classes.
New Student Orientation
- Step 1: University-wide virtual experience to learn about academic and campus resources. You will also attend sessions that prepare you for an individual meeting with an academic adviser and course scheduling, which will be completed in Step 2. This step includes a University Welcome, Orientation Leader Small Group, and Campus Meeting where you can meet with other students who are new to Penn State Altoona. Students must attend all three sessions in order to meet with an academic adviser. This component of Orientation is approximately three hours in length.
- Step 2: Virtual academic advising appointment and course scheduling occurs within one or two days of your attendance at the University-wide virtual experience. This is your opportunity to meet with an academic adviser who will discuss your intended major and help you choose courses that will help you make progress toward achieving a degree in that field. Plan to allow an hour for this meeting.
