Work-study Positions in the Science Labs
If you are looking for an opportunity to get practical work experience in an environment that has more to offer than the traditional classroom setting, the Science Labs are for you. Opportunities for cross-training exist in the areas of Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Geo Sciences. Not only will this job give you a chance to make new friends, but it will also give you the opportunity to learn more than what you do in the classroom. You may even discover an area of science that is so fascinating that you may decide to pursue a minor, take part in an independent research project, or become involved in a faculty member's research laboratory.

Who can work in Science Labs?
Any student who has qualified for a work-study position is eligible to work in one of the science labs, regardless of your major. However, some positions will be dependent on the educational level and experience of the applicant.
What's the job description?
Students work on any number of small tasks that usually involve preparation, setup, and clean up of materials for labs. Students also maintain the appearance of the labs and stockroom areas. Clean and orderly settings help instructors to provide the best learning environment possible and provides a measure of safety to the students. Students will assist with laboratory preparations (setup) and maintenance, computer data entry and assist with office and laboratory work.
How many hours will I work?
Students typically apply for a 10-12 hour workweek. This is a real job and as such, you are expected to show up on time when scheduled. The schedule is flexible. There are times when you have completed your given tasks and you will be allowed to spend that time studying. However, the amount of study time will depend on the workload which will change from day-to-day.
