Lady Lions Softball Selected to Compete in ECAC Tournament

DANBURY, Conn. - The Penn State Altoona softball team has earned a berth into the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Softball Championship Tournament, as the league announced a seven-team field on Monday afternoon.

The Lady Lions' postseason hopes were in limbo following the rainout of last weekend's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament. But now that the team has been selected to the ECAC Tournament, the Lady Lions have a second chance at making a postseason run.

Penn State Altoona (17-17, 12-6 AMCC) received the No. 6 seed in the ECAC Tournament. The Lady Lions will open the tournament this Wednesday, May 10, playing No. 3 Alvernia University (19-15, 5-11 Commonwealth Conference) at 12:00 p.m. in a game hosted at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa.

The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the double-elimination rounds of the tournament on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14, which will be hosted at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pa.

This marks the fourth ECAC Tournament selection in Penn State Altoona softball program history. The Lady Lions won an ECAC title in 2015, when the team made a dominating run to secure the ECAC South Region championship.
