Why LiveOn with us?

Safety and security

Safety is a priority at Penn State. The University strives to create an environment where an individual on campus can come and go without fear for their safety. University housing is always locked while students are in residence. All of the on-campus residence halls feature a 24/7 card-only access system.

Professional staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Resident sssistants are always on-duty in every building and resident coordinators are always on-call for each housing area. Maintenance staff is always available to handle those unexpected emergencies.

Financial

Graduating early? Studying abroad? No worries! The housing contracts are pro-rated, meaning you only pay per semester. And housing contracts align with the academic calendar, so you never have to worry about subletting your space when not taking classes.

You receive one all-inclusive room and board bill with zero hidden fees. There is no security deposit required to request housing. And you receive straightforward, individual contracts. If your roommate or suitemate changes plans, this doesn’t impact your billing status.

Housing contracts include your choice of three campus meal plan levels. There is a meal plan level to satisfy every appetite. Campus meal plans give students the flexibility to enjoy the all-you-care-to-eat options in the Dining Commons or purchase items from our campus restaurants and convenience stores.

Conveniences

On-campus housing options are close to everything, saving time. The housing is within walking distance to dining, classes, recreation facilities, computer labs and student support services. There are on-site laundry and study spaces in every building. Rooms and apartments are fully furnished and feature wireless access.

There are indoor and outdoor common spaces available in and around every building. The common spaces are cleaned and maintained daily by housekeeping staff. They work diligently to provide a safe, clean, comfortable and healthy living environment for residential students.

Diverse and inclusive communities

In a recent interview, several students reflect on their four years of living in on-campus housing. For them, the convenience, the friendships formed, and the independence has made their residential experience a hallmark of their time at Penn State.

“I was nervous and excited coming in,” Nicole DiMauro said, “but it surprised me how fast you build a community of friends. We had had a group of people that we were hanging out with within the first weekend. We moved in on Thursday and then Sunday we're hosting movie nights in my room. I thought that was incredible that we were able to build a community so fast with people that were on our floor.”

Special Living Options

A student who resides in a Special Living Option (SLOs) has the opportunity to live and learn with classmates who share similar interests but bring many different personalities and traits to the environment. Students live with other members of the SLO in a close-knit community (or "house") as part of University housing. SLO members have the opportunity to participate in field trips, group dinners, and other social and educational activities. Students build strong relationships with fellow residents, and with the faculty and staff members affiliated with the SLO. In Penn State's SLOs, learning isn't just encouraged, it's celebrated!

What better way to stay connected to your Penn State community than to live on campus. Living in the residence halls helps you to foster friendships and has a significant impact on your academic success and personal growth. We provide experiences to help you connect your in- and out-of-classroom learning so you can truly take advantage of all that Penn State has to offer.
