Penn State Altoona Athletics recap Sept. 24-30

Sophomore midfielder Brant Aughenbaugh helped the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team go 1-0-1 last week by scoring a goal in each game.

Men’s golf

  • 12th Place at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic (315/319)

Junior Luke Hoffnagle (York, PA/Spring Grove) and sophomore Ethan Yohe (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) each shot a two-day combined score of 152 in the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic at The Bridges Golf Club, tying for 18th place individually out of 96 golfers at the event.

Sophomore midfielder Brant Aughenbaugh (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) scored two goals for the Lions in two games last week, helping his team go 1-0-1 on the week. He is currently tied for the team lead in goals scored this season with three.

Women’s soccer

  • Washington & Jefferson College 2, Penn State Altoona 1
  • Penn State Altoona 6, Alfred State College 4

Junior midfielder Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) notched her first career hat trick on Saturday, September 28 in her team’s 6-4 win at Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Alfred State, scoring three goals while also chipping in an assist.

Women’s tennis

  • Juniata College 6, Penn State Altoona 3
  • Saint Vincent College 7, Penn State Altoona 2
  • Penn State Altoona 5, Waynesburg University 4

Junior Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) had a strong week for the Lady Lions last week, going 3-0 in singles matches and 2-1 in doubles. She leads Penn State Altoona in singles wins this season with seven.

Women’s volleyball

Freshman outside hitter Jenna Bauer (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) totaled 33 points (3.3 points per set), 31 kills (3.10 kills per set), and 44 digs (4.40 digs per set) in three matches for the Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball team last week.
