
Penn State Altoona’s Anna Batrus, of Altoona, who graduated in May after a four-year career with the women’s volleyball team, became the first student-athlete in school history to be named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Woman of the Year.
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Penn State Altoona’s Anna Batrus, of Altoona, who graduated in May after a four-year career with the women’s volleyball team, became the first student-athlete in school history to be named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Woman of the Year.
Batrus will be the AMCC’s representative for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.
Batrus graduated from Penn State Altoona in May 2025 with a 3.96 GPA in business with a focus on management and marketing while also picking up a minor in entrepreneurship. Her academic honors included being a four-time Peak Performer on the AMCC Academic All-Conference Team, earning a spot on the dean's list all eight semesters, induction into the Chi Alpha Sigma national honor society for college athletes, being a member of the Sigma Beta Delta business honor society, and being a two-time College Sports Communicators’ NCAA Division III Academic All-District honoree. Additionally, Batrus was nominated for president of the Penn State Altoona Sheetz Fellows Program and was the 2021 Penn State Altoona President’s Award recipient.
Athletically, Batrus was a two-time AMCC first-team all-conference selection and an eight-time AMCC Defensive Player of the Week. She finished her career fifth in Penn State Altoona history in digs per set (4.58) and is tied for seventh in total digs (1,213). Batrus was a member of the 2023 and 2024 AMCC champion women's volleyball teams that advanced to the NCAA Division III postseason tournament. She was awarded the Penn State Altoona women's volleyball Coach's Award in 2023 and was named her team’s Most Valuable Player in 2024.
Batrus also has been very involved in the local community. She served on the Penn State Altoona Athletics move-in day crew for four years, assisting first-year students with moving into their residence halls. Batrus also has assisted with other local organizations, such as the 28th Street Church, the Hollidaysburg Book Sale, Sweat 4 Vets, the Blair County Food Drive, the Nehemiah Project, and the Ronald McDonald Golf Tournament. With these organizations, she volunteered her time organizing food for local food pantries, has helped organize and sell books for a local library fundraiser, packed backpacks filled with food for kids in need, and assisted runners and served as a course leader for a local Veterans Day race.
Batrus has also volunteered her time with a local faith-based community development organization committed to assisting underprivileged and blighted neighborhoods. She also has assisted with multiple sporting events and teams, such as the Nittany Lion Recruiting Showcase; the junior high Penn State Altoona volleyball camp, where she served as a camp counselor; and the Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team, where she served as a volunteer scorekeeper.
Batrus is currently pursuing her master’s degree in strategic leadership at St. Francis University in Loretto.
