Four members of the Penn State Altoona tennis teams were recognized for their success in the classroom on Tuesday, May 14, being named to the College Sports Communicators’ NCAA Division III Academic All-District teams.
From the Penn State Altoona women’s tennis team, Isabella Rhoades, of Tyrone, Lauren Stich, of Ellwood City, and Rachel Stricek, of Tyrone, earned spots on the CSC’s DIII Academic All-District team. On the men’s side, Casey Hess, of Annville, took a spot on the CSC DIII Academic All-District squad.
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released its spring All-Sportsmanship team on Thursday, June 1, and it included a Penn State Altoona student-athlete from each of the Lions’ four spring teams.
All teams that compete for an AMCC championship select one member from each of their rosters who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be included on the All-Sportsmanship team. These individuals are selected by a vote of their teammates.
The student-athlete selected by each team must consistently demonstrate a high level of ethical conduct, respect and fair play in both practice and competition, whether on the sidelines or as an active competitor. Such sportsmanship shall be evident toward teammates, coaches, opponents, officials and fans. The player also must serve as a positive representative of school spirit when a spectator at other teams' sporting events.
The four Penn State Altoona spring sport student-athletes voted to the AMCC All-Sportsmanship team by their teammates are:
- Men’s Volleyball: Jared Kish of Columbus, Ohio
- Men’s Tennis: Casey Hess of Annville
- Softball: Aubrey Dotts of Houtzdale
- Baseball: Luke Angstadt of Lancaster
