Altoona softball heads to Cleveland Region for NCAA Tournament

Penn State Altoona men’s tennis student-athlete Andrew Chronister of York was voted the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Newcomer of the Year and co-Player of the Year, while head coach Megan Stern was chosen as the Coach of the Year, highlighting eight Lions recognized in the league’s postseason awards, which were released on Tuesday, April 23.

INDIANAPOLIS — On Monday, May 15, the NCAA Division III Softball Committee released its field of 62 teams that will compete in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament, sending the Penn State Altoona softball team to compete in the Cleveland, Ohio regional bracket.

Penn State Altoona will take on Case Western Reserve University, the top seed and host of the regional bracket, in its first game in the NCAA Division III Tournament this Thursday, May 18, at 4:30 p.m. Joining the fourth-seeded Lions in the regional are second seed University of Mount Union and third seed Hiram College.

Penn State Altoona nabbed the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s automatic qualification to compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament by winning the conference’s playoffs this past weekend in Erie.

This week’s NCAA postseason appearance by the Lions is the third in Penn State Altoona softball program history.
