Penn State Altoona will hold the Junior Engineers summer camp July 21-25 from 9 a.m. to noon. Designed for children in grades 4-6, the camp includes a week of hands-on activities and engineering.
For the third year in a row, Penn State Altoona softball infielder Gianna Hoppel, of Lewistown, was recognized by the College Sports Communicators for her academic success, as she was named to the organization’s NCAA Division III Academic All-District team.

Campers in grades 4-6 will learn engineering principles by completing various projects and experiments. They will also design their own pine derby race car using the CNC machine and other lab equipment on campus, then race them on a special track at the end of the week.
Harriett Gaston, an academic adviser at Penn State Altoona, will give a lecture on Thursday, June 5, about Daniel Hale Williams, the doctor who performed the first successful open-heart surgery in 1893 and founded the first interracial hospital in the United States.
