Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Summer Student Research Grant

Each year, Penn State Altoona's Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences awards summer research grants to students working with faculty members in the division. Money from the award can be used as a stipend for the student, for lab supplies and materials, or for travel related to research. The amount requested is not to exceed $1500. The deadline for the receipt of applications this year is Friday, March 17, 2023, and applications must be received using the online form below.

Can the project be conducted remotely if the laboratory facilities are not available?
If laboratory facilities are available for only part of the summer, is the project still viable?
Project Description

Include a description of the project for a general audience (not exceeding 600 words) that includes:

  1. The background and significance of the project (including references to relevant literature as appropriate).
  2. Materials, methods, and a plan with clear objectives for completing the project.
  3. Procedures to be used for analyzing and presenting the results.
  4. Itemized cost estimates of any equipment, supplies, travel, and student wages (total may not exceed $1500).
  5. A short statement describing how the proposed project will enrich the student’s academic experience.
