Student Organizations

Political Science Club

The aim of the Political Science Club is to introduce politics into students' lives and to connect the study of political science with real life experiences in the political system. The club holds regular meetings, organizes discussions of political issues, and invites speakers to campus.

Penn State Altoona Young Democrats

The Young Democrats is an organization that seeks to involve students, faculty, and staff in the American political system through discussions of issues important to members and advancing the interests of the Democratic Party through support for the party's candidates for elective office. This past year, the club sponsored a debate between Democratic candidates for the Blair County Commission and worked, individually, on various candidate campaigns.

Pi Sigma Alpha

Pi Sigma Alpha is the Political Science honorary society. Eligible students must have completed 60 credits towards a baccalaureate degree, at least 10 credits in Political Science with at least one upper division course with a gpa of 3.0 or higher, and be in the upper third of their graduating class. Pi Sigma Alpha states as one of its purposes "to stimulate scholarship and intelligent interest in political science." The society functions at the national level, sponsoring programs and events of value to the profession and teaching of political science, and at the chapter level. Each chapter is encouraged to provide a framework for enriching the exposure of its members and the wider university community to the study of government and issues of public concern. Further information on Pi Sigma Alpha can be found at on their web site or by contacting the program coordinator.
