Why major in Nursing?

If you want to make a difference in patients' lives and have a rewarding and meaningful career with opportunities for career advancement, then a nursing major may be your path toward a fulfilling future. A nursing degree prepares you to provide nursing care in varied settings, including hospitals, private practice, long-term care, clinics, and other healthcare and community agencies. The opportunities are extensive, and the rewards are limitless.

Options

  • Four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program for students pursuing their initial degree.
  • Second Degree BSN program for individuals who already have a bachelor’s degree in another field.
  • LPN to BSN Paths for Licensed Practical Nurse applicants who are deemed eligible for admission to the Baccalaureate Program in Nursing

At Penn State Altoona, you’ll have access to our state-of-the-art simulation learning lab and exceptional clinical sites at local healthcare institutions and community agencies. Our nursing faculty have varied and extensive clinical expertise and are committed to helping you achieve your goals and success. In addition, our NCLEX rates are consistently above the national average, and all of our programs are delivered by the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing. The college’s nursing programs are accredited by the PA State Board of Nursing and the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education.

Many U.S. states and territories require professional licensure/certification to be employed.
