RTE 302 class working with Total Stations

Students in Penn State Altoona's Rail Engineering Program work with total stations as part of RTE 302: Railroad Track Location, Construction and Maintenance. A total station is a state-of-the-art land surveying tool used in the railroad industry (and across civil engineering) to measure track features such as curvature and gradient. The Everett Railroad Company provided track time for this railroad track lab course. The tracks are always properly safe-guarded by the railroad and a job safety briefing is conducted before each lab class.
