Journal edited by Altoona English professor named on 'Top 10' list

ALTOONA, Pa. — A national literary journal edited by Erin Murphy, professor of English at Penn State Altoona, has been named on a top 10 list of journals that publish "Good, Lasting, Approachable Poetry."

The Summerset Review is number six on the list featured in "Chill Subs," a publication that focuses on publication opportunities. Other journals on the list include Rattle, New York Quarterly Magazine, and Gargoyle Magazine. The list was compiled by Mark Danowsky, editor of ONE ART: a journal of poetry.

Murphy has served as poetry editor of The Summerset Review since 2018. Founded in 2002 by editor-in-chief Joseph Levens, the quarterly journal has published works that have been recognized with Best American, Pushcart, and Best of the Net awards. In addition to poetry, The Summerset Review publishes fiction and creative nonfiction.

Murphy is the author or editor of more than a dozen books, chapbooks, and anthologies, with two additional books forthcoming from Salmon Poetry and Wesleyan University Press. She is the Poet Laureate of Blair County and is currently serving as Penn State's inaugural Mellon Academic Leadership Fellow for the Big Ten Academic Alliance.
