ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona’s Ivyside Dance Ensemble will take the stage for the spring performance, “Skyline,” on Thursday and Friday, April 11 and 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Center for Performing Arts.

Pieces by dance faculty KT Huckabee and Jessica Jaye Mackinson will be performed. Mackison’s dances include “Excerpts from ‘La Bayadère,’” a story of eternal love, mystery, fate, vengeance, and justice, and “mur·mur·a·tion,” the dance of a flock of starlings at dawn.

The title dance, “Skyline,” is a collaboration between Huckabee and musician and composer Rick Wertz that began in 2016. Wertz’s six-song composition explores the emotional spectrum of those experiencing immigration — forced or chosen. War, famine, politics, economy, climate and opportunity are just a few reasons behind leaving home for a new one. Allied Motion Dance Company rounds out the piece with members representing the catalysts for and hurdles of immigration.

Performances are free and open to the public thanks to the Kjell Meling Arts for All Initiative. For further information, call the box office at 814-949-5452.
