Penn State Altoona to host summer community dance classes

Penn State Altoona will showcase choreographic works by students in dance classes at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 28, in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.

ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona will host nine community dance classes throughout July and August. No prior experience is required. There is a $50 registration fee for each four-week section. All classes will be held in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts, and participants may bring a water bottle. Registration for all classes is available online.

  • Creative Movement (Dance 5030-003)
    6 to 7 p.m., July 20 and 27, Aug. 3 and 10
  • Creating The Art of Dance (Dance 5020-008), ages 7-9
    4 to 5 p.m., July 20 and 27, Aug. 3 and 10
  • Tap Through Sound Exploration (Dance 5002), ages 8-13
    3 to 4 p.m., July 20 and 27, Aug. 3 and 10
  • Dance Technique through Creativity (KINES 5004-002), ages 10-13
    5 to 6 p.m., July 20 and 27, Aug. 3 and 10
  • Scottish Highland Dance (Dance 5040-006), ages 6-8
    4:30 to 5 p.m., July 19 and 26, Aug. 2 and 9
    Dancers should wear shorts or leggings with a t-shirt or tank top (no jeans or jean shorts), socks or bare feet, long hair pulled back.

  • Ballet For Adults (Dance 9004-001)
    5:30 to 6:30 p.m., July 17, 24 and 31, Aug. 7
    All levels are welcome in this four-week session. Classes include barre exercises focusing on coordination and balance followed by jumping and turning combinations. Dancers should wear athletic/dance wear and ballet shoes.
