ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona's Common Read program is underway with numerous events focused on this year's selection, "Almost American Girl," by Robin Ha.
Multiple professors and instructors have included coursework in their fall semester curriculums tied to the book. Recently, students in ENGL 137H: Rhetoric and Civic Life wrote about a section of "Almost American Girl" that they found thought-provoking. Three student essays are available on the Common Read site.
Common Read invites all students, faculty and staff into discussions about a single book, creating a community of engaged thinkers and active, responsible citizens.
There are several upcoming Common Read events, including a campus visit by Ha on Wednesday, Oct. 19. A discussion with the author will take place in the Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by a book-signing in the Titelman Study. Ha will discuss the creation of “Almost American Girl,” her writing and illustrating process, and answer pre-submitted questions.
Anyone interested in participating in this program may contact Laura Rotunno at [email protected] to get a copy of "Almost American Girl."
