ALTOONA, Pa. — Poet Jan Beatty will offer a reading of her works at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, in the Titelman Study of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona.

Beatty is the winner of the Red Hen Nonfiction Award for her seventh book, the memoir “American Bastard.” Her other books include “Jackknife: New and Collected Poems,” and her new chapbook, “Skydog,” was just released from Lefty Blondie Press.

Her poems have been published in New York Times Magazine, Best American Poetry, BuzzFeed, and North American Review, among others.

Beatty has worked as a waitress, a welfare caseworker, and a social worker and teacher in maximum-security prisons. For many years, she directed Creative Writing and the Madwomen in the Attic writing workshops at Carlow University.
