ALTOONA, Pa. — Brian Black's article "Fueling the American Century: Establishing the U.S. Petroleum Imperative” was recently published by Cambridge University Press in "Nature at War: American Environments and World War II." Black is a Distinguished Professor of history and environmental studies at Penn State Altoona.

The article itemizes strategies for increased energy production that the United States implemented and how they impacted the outcome of WW II. In particular, through its use in airplanes, tanks, and trucks, petroleum was instrumental in the Allies victory in the war.
