Lisa Surkovich holds a BS in elementary education from Indiana University of PA, a Masters in reading and a Reading Specialist Certification from Salisbury State University in Maryland, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana University of Pennsylvani. She has been a public school elementary teacher/reading specialist for the past thirty-eight years, thirty-one of those years with the Hollidaysburg Area School District. After retiring from public education in June, she is very excited to begin a new chapter of her career as the Assistant Literacy Professor for Penn State Altoona. She is looking forward to helping to prepare a new generation of educators to have the kind of long and happy career she has had.

Surkovich and her husband Tim have three grown sons and are looking forward to a first grand baby in November. Lisa loves theatre and was the founder of the Hollidaysburg Area Children’s Theatre, which she directed for twenty years. She has performed onstage with Altoona Community Theatre and Cresson Lake Playhouse. She is also a member of the contemporary Christian singing trio, Three Four One.

Fun Facts:

  • Surkovich is passionate about Children’s Literature and even named her dog Seuss, in honor of Dr. Seuss.
  • She loves crafting, especially needlepoint and quilling.
